It is a new Sport, but currently gains fast recognition and the number of its worldwide followers reaches millions. The sport gained its popularity through social media; the biggest contributor being YouTube. It is also a competitive sport where various competitions such as the world championships, world cups etc. are held yearly. World Street Workout and Calisthenics is the main federation driving the development of the sport globally.

Street Workout/Calisthenics is a form of exercise consisting of a variety of exercises, often rhythmical movements, generally without using equipment or apparatus or in conjunction with basic equipment such as jungle gyms. They are intended to increase body strength and flexibility with movements such as bending, jumping, swinging, twisting or kicking, using only one's body weight for resistance. They are usually conducted in concert with stretches. When performed vigorously and with variety, Calisthenics can benefit both muscular and cardiovascular fitness, in addition to improving psychomotor skills such as balance, agility and coordination.

Most popular exercises are Pullups, Chinups, Pushups, Dips, MuscleUps, SitUps and Crunches, Street workout also involves some static holds like Human flag, Front and Back lever, Planche, etc.

Groups such as sports teams and military units often perform leader directed group calisthenics as a form of synchronized physical training (often including a customized "call and response" routine) to increase group cohesion and discipline. Calisthenics are also popular as a component of physical education in primary and secondary schools over much of the globe.
