Muaythai is a Thai martial art (literally translated from Thai as Thai boxing (muay)), encompassing the use of eight
weapons – two feet/shins; two knees; two elbows; and two fists - to attack and defend against an opponent by
punching, kicking, elbowing and kneeing, as well as incorporating clinching techniques. Muaythai developed as a
sport from an ancient traditional Thai form of combat, and is now practised across the by world by men and women
of all ages, as a sport and form of physical fitness. The competitive arena of Muaythai caters for both amateurs and
professionals, from young “cadettes”, juniors and through to senior athletes.
